Biography

Evelien Vaneysendeyk (*2002) is a Belgian harpist who, since the age of 9, has been in love with the harp and all its musical possibilities. She yearns to explore her instrument in as many ways as possible, and shares her journey through concerts.

Evelien started playing the harp under the guidance of her first harp professor, Lieve Robbroeckx, in Belgium. At 18, she decided to study with Isabelle Perrin, for her Bachelor's, at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, Norway. After 4 years, she earned her degree and decided to continue her studies with Sivan Magen at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, Germany. She is set to graduate in the summer of 2026.

"The harp should be heard by more people. There are fantastic pieces of all periods waiting to be discovered, from the Baroque period all the way up to the music that is being written as we speak."

Always inquisitive, Evelien quickly discovered the world of possibilities for the harp in other fields. She has been active both soloistically and collaboratively in the contemporary field, worked together with artists while playing the electric harp, and improvised on both jazz and contemporary music. She is open to learning about new concepts and new settings, and believes it is imperative to work with contemporary composers to create more music for the harp.

Throughout her musical career, she has participated in her fair share of competitions and has often taken one of the top prizes home with her. Her latest achievements include winning 1st prize in the highest category of the Soka-Nippon International Harp Competition 2024 in Japan, and 1st prize at the Concours Français de la Harpe 2024 in Limoges. These competitions sometimes include the opportunity to play as a soloist with orchestra, which led her to play the Dittersdorf Concerto for harp in Ukraine.
